Islanders foi criado no dia 13 de Marco de 2011.A razao fundamental do surgimento deste grupo foi pensando nos nossos familiares que apos uma ardua semana de trabalho, escola, etc,ficam muitas vezes isolados por causa da nossa paixao pelo desporto reiPor isso FAMILIA ISLANDERS.Nao quisemos criar mais um grupo de futebol mas, sim, um grupo envolvendo familia.Assim, nasceu esta familia constituida por amigos devidamente seleccionados que juntos assumiram o compromisso de fazer deste grupo uma grande familia, onde os nossos familiares deicham de se sentirem relegados ao segundo plano nas nossas caminhadas de fins de semana desportiva.Este ano o grupo tem como objectivo a participacao no torneio de futebol (Veteran’s Cup) a realizar em Florida de 7 a 10 de Julho.
No dia 10 de Junho relizou-se um jantar de apresentacao do grupo que contou com a presenca de varios amigos. No dia 17 de Junho Sexta feira proxima sera o nosso baptismo futebolistico com o encontro de futebol a realizar no Estadio de Ceylon Park em Boston contra a equipa de Dinos as 7pm, aproveitando para convidar a todos os amantes do desporto para nos honrar com a sua presenca.

Club Tabanka Has Strong Start to the 2011 Season.

Clube Tabanka continued its sizzling start on Saturday witha 3-1 win over Boston rival Strela Negra at Moakley Filed in South Boston.Clube Tabanka improved to an impressive 3-0 start unlikelast season when they started very poorly which might have cost them a chance atthe title. Tabanka scored first, goal by Brito in the first half, butStrela pull even right before the halftime.In the second half it was all Tabanka, Bebeto score form the PK spot,and Mark added the third late in the game to seal the win. Tabanka has out score its opponents 10-2 inthree games, 5 goals by Toti 3 by Bebeto and 2 by Mark. The 2009 champs are looking to win their second titlein three years.

Alianca CV contineu to struggle this season after 1-1 draw vs Tarrafal FC at Hillstorm, Alianca Cv still without a head coach this year witch could be the reason why they are off to a slow start.

Nos Bandera could pick up three points, after Juventus didn't show up in time for the match.

NELASA WEEK 1 RECAP

NELASA WEEK 1

Only two games were schedule for the first week of the 2011 NELASA season and we couldn't ask for a beeter ones.

The first match was at Madison Park where the defending Champs Alianca CV took on Clube Tabanka and got shout out by 3-0 score. Tabanka jumped to an early lead on a goal score by Toty. Toty playing his first game for his new club, was the star of the game scoring the first two goals of the match, and Mark added a third one late in the match to seal the 3 point for Tabanka.

The second match was at Ceylon Park, Nos Bandera vs. Fidjos Terra. Nos Bandera came out on top thanks to 2 goals by Tata and 1 by "zidane".

Trophy winners may get financial rewards from NELASA this Season.

With the 2011 season just days away, NELASA is coming back after one of its worst years so far, where they had to make a lot of changes and additions to their "BY LAWS”, and how the League is going to precede going forward. One of the big additions this season is financial rewards to the trophy winners, where the Champions will get anywhere form $2,500-$3,000, the CUP winner $1,000, the Super Cup Winner $500 and the team that wins the fair play award will get free player registration for the 2012 season. With these additions the new NELASA Board members hope it will bring more excitement and more professionalism to the league. For now the new NELASA board member are Paulo Barros, Betinho Santos, Maria “Bethy” Gomes, Joe Mendes and Luis “Kiko” Pires. Betinho said that more member could be add on as the season prolongs on but for now they will work together with the affiliated clubs directors to guide NELASA on its new journey.

Nelasa Punished Nos Bandera!

NELASA just released their latest Official Notice "#37" and Nos Bandera got punished for using an ineligible player "Bronu Bandao" in four matches. Against Curral Grande Sept. 4th, Boston FC Sept. 11th, F. Terra Oct. 2nd and Emigrantes Oct. 9th. witch means Nos Bandera forfeit all those games and with that they finished 4th in the standings behind Alianca, Emigrantes and Tabanka.

This also means that Taide who scored a total of 28 goals during the season including 9 goals in those four matches total, is no longer the Golden Boot Winner.

Bebeto Tabank's strikers is the new Golden Boot Winner with 25 goals scored during the season

With this new information Futebolcriolo will also remove Taide from the MVP ballot.

Champions at last!

Wow. What a season by Aliança CV. One of the youngest team in NELASA only five year since joining the league, Aliança can finally call them self Champions at last. Aliança played a back to back game this weekend and won both games, they beat Nos Bandera 3-0 Saturday and also beat Tarrafal FC 2-0 Sunday. Zico steped up big in those two games by scoring 3 goals, two Saturday and one Sunday. One of the teams that kept the pressure on Aliança all season long was Emigrantes but, they have no chance to catch up now as they are 13 points back with only 12 possible points to capture.
One of my favorite NELASA’s coach Betinho is the only coach to have a “dobradinha” triple crown in NELASA’s history, he did back in 2008 with Fidjus Terra and he has a chance to do it again this season as his team still he the hunt for the CUP, they will take on Tabanka in the Semi-Finals.

Abe Matos was stabbed while playing a soccer match last Saturday at Pic Park in Brockton in front of 300 plus fans. The Perpetrator by the name Emmanuel DaSilva was caught by Brockton Police 10 minutes after he got away. According to friends and teammates Abe is in stable condition and he had 65 stitches to his stomach area. Levamos ao vosso conhecimento de que a Assembleia Geral Extraordinária requerida por 2/3 dos clubes filiados da NELASA, realizou-se no passado domingo, dia 3, tendo chegado a um entendimento entre os delegados dos 12 clubes participantes, em prol do bem servir a Liga crioula. Como é do dominio público houve saídas e entradas. A mudança é necessária só quando sirva para requalificar o sistema. E no desporto as mudanças são indespensáveis.

Foi constituida uma Comissão Provisória com o mandato para terminar a época desportiva e preprar a eleição, em conformidade com a proposta apresentada. A sessão foi longa e participativa, mas os resultados foram positivos.

NELASA down to 13 affiliated Clubs.

Sporting RI has been disqualified by NELASA for not showing up for scheduled games.
Disciplinary committee found that Sporting failed to comply with the By Laws and were not happy when the league's President Narcisa Araujo allowed the team to continue in the competitions even after the facts. After a schedule meeting the President and the DC came to an agreement and Sporting now joins Safira and Spiga Midju as the teams to be disqualified this season after failing to comply with the league's By Laws article 444.02 and 444.03

Luis Pires wants out as NELASA's Treasurer.

We have seen many NELASA Board Members resigning this season including Ex President Carlos Amado now the League's Treasurer Luis Pires AKA "kiko" is the latest to do so, in a letter sent to the league informing about his resignation as the Treasurer.

I regreattably have to inform you all of my decision to resign as Treasurer of NELASA. This is a difficult decision for me because I am very optimistic of our greeat potential; however our current situation is not conducive to prosperity. Week 22 recap-Emigrantes hand Alianca first loss of the season

Emigrantes @ Alianca CV: 1-0
With the game been played mostly in the medfield both teams never got a chance to really control the game. But in the 83rd minute Zico Veiga got a chance and put Emigrantes up1-0 from a very well taken free kick that just got passed Alianca’s goalkeeper Lizandro. This was a very important game for Emigrates to win and now they are just one point back from the first place with 9 games left in the regular season.

Strela Negra vs Tarrafal: 6-2
After suffering the Clubs worst loss of all time in the 2010 Mass. Cup Fianls Vs. Emigrantes (10-0) Strela Negra came back and trashed Tarrafal 6-2. Player of the game Denny Borges score five times he is now the 4th best scorer in the league with 14 goals.

Tabanka Vs. Boston FC: 7-2
Boston FC has allowed 14 goals in two games, week 21, 7-1 loss vs Nos Bandera and now this week they got trashed again by Tabanka 7-2. Bebeto added one more goal to his total, last season MVP Pirochu went on 18 game scoreless streaks but now he has scored 4 goals in 2 games including a hat-trick vs. Boston FC.

F. Terra vs. Mindelo: 4-2
Fidjus Terra went from a top of the table team to a mid-table team in just one year, they can never seem to get a winning streak going. This week they got one of the best performance of they year so far with a 4-2 win over Mindelo, goals from Ima (2) Narcisio and Manu.

Nos Bandera vs Sporting: 3-2
Nos Bandera came from behind to beat Spoting 3-2 at home goals from Taide, Pipito and Brono respectively.

Dinamo vs. C. Grande: 0-0
The referee had to call off the game in the 82nd minute do to some disorder by players and fans.

Juventude picked up 3 points from Safira
Café de Fogo got a bye week.

Aliança CV can breathe easier after Emigrantes loss versus Strela Negra.

With the 2010 season heading for the homestretch every win is important especially if you are Emigrantes whom before the game vs. Strela Negra were one point behind Aliança for the first place in the standings. With a win Emigrantes would’ve taken the first place and put them self in a really good position to win the title, but instead they can find them self 4 points back if Alianca can come up with a win vs. F. Terra this weekend. Emigrantes suffered an embarrassing 4-3 loss in a game witch they were down 2-0 and managed to come back and take a 3-2 lead, goals by Danny (pk) Ernesto and Buck, but they could not hold on as they allowed Strela Negra to score 2 more goals in the second half. The young 17 years old forward Elton Borges score three times in the game for Strela Negra and Djicay had the other goal.

Just because the summer transfer window closed doesn’t mean the Red Bulls have stopped scouring for talent. First they brought in fullback Sheanon Williams for a trial last week _ he earned another week _ and yesterday they brought in another 20-year-old in attacking midfielder Wuilito “Totti’’ Fernandes.
"On Monday it was raining, so unfortunately (I wasn’t) able do anything,'' Fernandes said through an interpreter, agent Tony Araujo. "I worked out with all the players, did everything they asked me. Obviously players like Rafa Marquez, Thierry Henry were really nice to me. They were happy with what I did today.
"We were just practicing positions, moving without the ball but not really playing, schematics of the game, strategy. I did well. They help you out, but I haven’t shown what I have in terms of skill, in terms of playing football yet. We just played small (sided) games, one-touch, two-touch.''
Fernandez _ a 5-foot-11, 160-pound attacking midfielder who can also play support striker or on either wing _ is another in the young crop of talents coming out of Cape Verde; he just stopped in New England for a detour. Since arriving in the U.S. a year and three months ago, he's starred at Boston International High School, and this summer in the New England Luso American Soccer Association.
"He's just a great kid,'' Araujo gushed. "This kid is all around great soccer player. (He has) great vision of the field, foot-skills, moving without the all, great in the air, he can jump, he has great speed. And he's a free-kick specialist; he scored four goals in the league this year on free kicks.''
Hyperbole or not, Fernandez might fit the bill for what the Red Bulls have seemingly been on the lookout for lately, taking cursory glances at Williams and yet another 20-year-old in Brazilian Marcos Paullo: Young, talented, and (potentially) cheap.
Back in Cape Verde, he'd played on the Under-17 National Team and then played two years for Baiiro FC in the country's highest league. When he came to the United States, he enrolled at Boston International, notching 22 goals and 15 assists in 20 games, named all-city and leading his team to the state quarterfinals. Now he's trying to make the jump to pro soccer.
In the LASA, he's posted eight goals and seven assists in 16 games. The season runs through November, but Araujo had him take some time off to come to this week's trial, and perhaps another in Portugal as well. Araujo placed another player, Zico Veiga, with second-division FC de Arouca; but clearly would prefer Fernandes land an MLS contract with the Red Bulls.
"He was actually supposed to be in Portugal this week. But because Red Bull is such a great team, and a fantastic project, as his agent then I thought that Red Bull would be the best place for him,'' Araujo said. "But if an opportunity doesn’t present itself here, then I'll take him to
Portugal.''

Week 17 Recap

NELASA Week 17 kicked off with a big upset Friday Night in Boston where Boston FC put on a show and score five times against Strela Negra. Boston FC took a quick 2-0 lead Goals by Will and Demeteo (PK) but before the half Strela Negra regrouped and scoreed two of the own to tie the game at 2-2 Goals by Denny and Djicay. But in the second half it was all Boston FC as they scored three more to seal the victory Will and Demeteo scored two goals each and Totti score one. Final score Boston FC 5-2 Srela Negra

The league leader Alianca CV traveled to Boston to take on Curral Grande and got an impressive 3-1 victory. Alianca scored first goal by Danny, then right before the half Vincent tied the game for Curral Grande. In the second half Alianca scored twice goals by De Lele and Zico.

Tabanka hosted Café De Fogo and all most blew another one. Café De Fogo scored first but Bebeto scored twice for Tabanka and they managed to hang on to a 2-1 victory.

In Brockton in a big match between two NELASA power houses Fidjus Terra and Emigrantes, this game was a must win for both teams. For Fidjus Terra they need to prove that they are still on of the top teams in NELASA, and do to the fact that they have been straggling against big clubs and with only 23 points in 16 matches it is just not acceptable. For Emigrantes this was a must win game just for the simple fact that they need to keep up with Alianca if they want any chance to win the Championship. Emigrantes scored early in the first half and manage to walk away with a tight 1-0 victory.

In R.I the last place team in the standings Juventude beat last years runner-up Sporting 2-0.

Dear Nelasa Clubs’ Delegates and Honorary Members

It is with regret that I inform you that I have submitted my resignation letter as the NeLasa Secretary General of Executive Committee. It was a difficult decision, because I take great pride in serving this league. However, the recent chains of events, of which some of you are well aware of, have made my role at the league meaningless and unpleasant. I do this because I have exhausted all the options I had to stop the countless mishaps at the league and I hope that by sacrificing my position I will help resolve the situation and rescue our beloved league.
This chain of events started when the current President took office. I knew it would not be easy for her, but I believed in her good intentions and humility and I was willing to help her succeed in her new mission. However, there has been since blatant disregard to the league’s bylaws and to institutional ethics and disrespect to some Nelasa individual members and club delegates. Mistakes in the communicado have been recurrent and consistent week in and out, such as needless changes in schedule, unexplained omission of games in communicados, communicado often not released in time (if released at all) and errors in players’ sanctions are just few examples. All these issues are caused by the inability of the president to lead the process, her arrogance to ask others within the Executive Committee to assume that role and above all her reliance on a party outside the league to finalize communicado. This has created miscommunication and confusion in the league which has affected many teams and games.
An organization of the dimension of NeLasa deserves a better leadership than what we are getting now. Besides arriving with very limited knowledge of the rules of soccer and managerial skills, the President shows little honesty and trustworthiness. She signs letters and communicado that neither she nor anybody from NeLasa wrote. She does these things without informing her Executive Committee and insists on covering up this fact with the intent to make everybody believe she is writing those letters and completing communicados herself. She has provided wrong information to clubs’ delegates, which created the league predicament and embarrassment.
Since she became president, she has marginalized the Executive Committee and instead preferred to work with members from other Nelasa’s organs (especially the General Assembly) and with individual (s) from outside Nelasa all together. Her first decision as the President was to give into the suggestion of the President of General Assembly to change the lock of the league’s office without ever communicating this action with anyone in the Executive Committee. She never called up an Executive Committee meeting and had the audacity to fabricate lies before the Board meeting that she called meetings and we did not show up. She unilaterally ordered referees assignors to send game reports only to her personal e-mail (not even to Nelasa account) and then failed to forward them to others in adequate time for the purpose of completing work related to communicado in time. She gave permission that the leagues’ card printer to be loaned out which caused some players to play without their league pass cards and failed to be truthful when asked about it.
Nonetheless, what concerns me even more is the complacency of some in the Nelasa’s Board. Some members are supporting and deeply involved in the President’s actions and others are either turning a blind eye or not been frank and direct in their criticism. Some of these members which I myself admire for their character and intelligence have stunned me, because in the past they had been so upfront in such situations, but now they show sympathy for incompetence. For what reason is this President getting special treatment from most elder members of our Board in detriment of the league business, I don’t know.
As rest of the Board close their eyes to these events, more key members of the league are resigning and more will follow. Some members of the Board are instigating a senseless and needless quarrel with the referee’s assignors risking our future games to have no referees. The Assembly General Committee which has been interfering in the executive business from the start has now appointed its own Vice-President as the new Vice-President of the Executive Committee in clear evidence that they have a hidden agenda they wanted to impose on the league.
I have been involved in this community for over 10 years in different organizations and groups and never resigned in protest. I have never run from problems by resigning, but for the first time I have to step out to have any hope of a change that would safe our league. It pains me to leave an unfinished agenda of making Nelasa a stronger organization closer to the community in general. During my short tenure, I suggested we make Inter-Ilhas Tournament part of the Independence celebration and to honor Jorge Fidalgo in NeLasa all stars game. I brought the idea of printing a calendar for the first time and led the production of it so we could have more people attending our games.
I am not abandoning NeLasa for I will be contributing at the club level. I will be available to help with the transition and even to return if there is a President whom I trust and wants my service such as Bibi did in the beginning of the season when he showed me his plans and asked me to join his team. NeLasa is in my view the greatest organization and the most cherish institution in our community. Only club delegates can still save this league and whichever delegates are interested in helping save it can count on my collaboration and support.

NELASA ruled against Emigrantes regarding week 11 game vs Tabanka

After weeks of investigation NELASA has ruled against Emigrantes Das Ilhas regarding week 11 incident in a game vs. Tabanka where the referee called the game off after the first half. The referee claimed that it was unsafe for him to continue on with the game because a fan threatened him with bodily harm, by showing the him a handful of rocks this according to NELASA.
Tabanka was up 1-0 and the game was not started for the 2nd half.
NELASA released this decision. “The Conselho de Disciplina concludes that the spectator who caused the disturbances is “Chiquinho”, a known Emigrantes Das Ilhas fan, therefore finds Emigrantes Das Ilhas responsible of the stated incidents under Article 463.01 a), 463.02 and 463.06;”

Who is going to be?

The two most consistent NELASA Clubs in the past few years have been Alianca CV and Emigrantes Das Ilhas they record speaks for it self. They have dominated this league in all most every category there is, and this year they are on a close race for the 2010 NELASA Championship Trophy, and they are in collision course to meet in the Emidio Raposo Cup Finals, if both Clubs make it pass the Semi Finals. These two giants met back in week 7 in Brockton and they couldn’t beat each other as they came away with one point each a 1-1 tie. So the question remains after the midway point of the 2010 season “Who is it going to be?” Right now Alianca has a three point advantage but every thing else is all most dead on. Both teams are undefeated, Alainca has a record of 12-2-0 Emigrantes 11-2-0, They are tie with most goals scored 34, goals against Alianca 8, Emigrantes 7, only time will tell witch one of this two teams will collapse, because right now it seems like they have no other competition in this league but them self. Alainca will meet Emigrantes at least one more time this season in week 23 and it should a very interesting match to see. So who is it going to be? Uhhh we will find out.

Betinho wants out of NELASA!

In a recent letter to NELASA Board Member Mario “Betinho” Santos doesn’t want anything to do with the league anymore. Betinho was the First Cape Verdean to serve as the President of the league from 2007-2009 and after his term was done he decide to leave the position do to family issues but promised to remain close to the league and take on a smaller task. He was appointed the League’s Vice President of Disciplinary Committee back in January and now at the mid point of the 2010 season it seems like he had enough. Betinho wrote a letter to NELASA where he said “In my opinion the Executive Committee Chair person is way over her head and unfortunately I do not see enough people around that care to do anything about the situation and I also think that the Appeals Committee is starting to making decisions with no regards to what is actually written in NELASA’s Bylaws, so for these two reasons I hope that you will kindly accept my resignation as the Vice President of NELASA’s Disciplinary Committee.”
Betinho also said “I want to thank all of you for your trust, help and support over the years. I have learned and benefited greatly from my stay with NELASA and will treasure the experience for the rest of my live.”

Week 14 recap
Nelasa week 14 kick of with an excited game between N. Bandera and Aliança CV in Boston the game didn’t quite lived up to its hype, as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

At the same field Tabanka hosted and beat Strela Negra 1-0 goals by ex Strela Negra Bebeto for his 10th goal of the season, first back to back win for Tabanka this season.

Later also at Madison Park Curral Grande came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the came 2-2 against Tarrafal, Sousa scored twice for Tarrafal.

At Ceylon Park Boston FC got trashed by Emigrantes 6-0 Danny Xavier scored 4 times he now got 11 goals scored 2 behind Taide (N. Bandera) whom got 13. Also Edens and Ernesto scored 1 goal each.

In Brockton Café de Fogo pulled a 1-1 tie against the red hot Mindelo.

In Accordance with By-Laws under Articles 444.02, 444.03 and all Articles 416, and acting upon its contents, the league (NELASA) hereby revoke Safira FC affiliation effective immediately. Safira FC has been disqualified from the league therefore, they are ineligible to participate in all of NELASA's competitions.

Last week after Tabanka’s 1-1 tie Vs Tarrafal there were some rumors that Fernando left the team do to player lack of effort on the field, but Tabanka’s board members were able to confirm the story as false and that Fernando still the head coach.

Alianca CV from Brockton are well on their way to capture their first NELASA Championship. Aliança Board members made it clear in the beginning of the season that Alianca are in it to win it, when they got some of the league best players like Zico, Zorru, Lisandro, Adilson and others young talents to join the team. Aliança CV have one of the leagues best Roster and they have proven so far that they are the best team in NELASA not only on papers but on the field as well. Aliança CV is undefeated after 11 League games so far this year a 10-1-0 record and an impressive 22-6-2 record dating back to last year they lead the league in points with 31 and goal scored with 30, Aliança CV only tie this year came against the team that is chasing them right now Emigrantes in week 7 a 1-1 tie. In a recent interview with Aliança Sports Director and Co Founder João Jose he said that "Alianca goals this year is to continue working hard as a team, preparing every week to win each game and respect each opponent, and face each game as a final” and he feels like that was lacking last year and it is one of the reason why they didn’t actually win anything last year even though they were clearly the best team during the regular season. João Jose also gives a lot of credit to Aliança head coach Betinho he said “The basic keys are the obedience of the players and expertise of coach Betinho. He respect and trust his players and they in return do the same. He was able to introduce respect, orientation and confidence. Being self-oriented and has real knowledge of the game, Betinho, was able to pioneer a new strategies. Alianca CV is one of the youngest Clubs in the League and they are starting to become one of the most popular team as well all credited to the Board Members that are doing a exceptional job supporting the team on and off the field, Joao Jose said “Every year Alianca CV is growing, the board and the players are budding and/or growing. We are a better organized association and in the field we have a better behaved and well coordinated squad.”

What is the difference between this years’s Alianca and the past years?

--Every year Alianca CV is growing, the board and the players are budding and/or growing. We are a better organized association and in the field we have a better behaved and well coordinated squad.

The basic keys are the obedience of the players and expertise of coach Betinho. He respect and trust his players and they in return do the same. He was able to introduce respect, orientation and confidence. Being self-oriented and has real knowledge of the game, Betinho, was able to pioneer a new strategies. The tactical, psychological and/or emotional disciplines are playing a big role.

These youths now understand who is in charge and that during the work time they are professionals. After the game the coach and the players are all together playing, eating, drinking etc. But during work time everyone has to respect and do the job at its best. As we all know, discipline is the instant willingness and obedience to all orders, respect for authority, self reliance and team work. These players are capable now to understand that. These are the reasons for such success.

Last year, contrarily we had a very strong squad and a good coach as well. But, there were no discipline and some of the players start to take control of the outcome. Most started to believe that they were superstars and that all should play. In addiction, luck played an important role as well.

What are your goals for this year?

Our goal is to continue working hard as a team, preparing every week to win each game. At the end we will do the math. But deliberately, we are a serious candidate for NELASA league and cup, MASS CUP and New England Champions league titles. We know that it’s difficult, and alerted that worse is to come, but we are prepared for the challenges.

Knowing that last year you guys were the best team in the league but didn’t win anything. what did Alianca learn from that that might help you guys go all the way this year?

Respect each opponent, and face each game as a final. But the major concern is to maintain a group compact, tactically and physiologically strong. All NELASA teams (and every year) tend to loose players in the most critical part of the season, because of innumerous issues. The lack of commitment/exhaustion from long season is the key issue and that that we should pay more attention to.

What does it means to go undefeated?

--That would be great, possible, but consciously that it is very, very difficult. There is not unbeatable team. We are in the path of growing experience. NELASA has very strong and experienced teams. We respect all of them. I am pretty sure that that’s not our goal. Our goal is to work continuously fervent week-in and week-out to win the championship and cup, autonomously of being defeated or not. Winning a title can bestow us confidence and experience to maybe in the future to try to go undefeated.

Totti "Shines"

One of the Leagues youngest players and yet his shinning brighter than everyone else. Only 20 years of age Totti has shown every NELASA followers that he was born to play Soccer. For the past two weeks Totti has been putting on a show at NELASA highest stage the Inter-Ilhas Tournament and The All-Star games. Totti help his native Island Santiago win their second Inter-Ilhas Championship in 3 years where he scored the opening goals in both matches’ vs Fogo (4-1 win) and vs Sao Vicente (1-1 tie) and he was arguably the player of the match in both games. Also Totti got to represent the 2010 NELASA All-Stars in a friendly match Vs Vermont Voltage where Totti again showed his talent by scoring two goals on a 4-2 victory and he was the Player of the match. In an interview after the game Totti said that he was happy to represent NELASA and he remains optimistic that one day he will make his dream come true and play at the professional level when asked about his future plans. .

Born in Baovista Narciso one of the best midfielder in NELASA could not participate in the past 3 Inter-Ilhas Tournament because his native Island “BoaVista” did not have enough players here in the states to organize a team. Do to Inter-Ilhas bylaws in the past three years, a player can only represent his native Island, but that law was changed this year “2010” witch allows a players that did not represent any other Island in the past to choose an Island of there choice. Manny people around the league says that the Bylaws was changed because of Narciso, to give him a chance to play in the league’s best Tournament, Narciso has been in this league for a long period of time and he deserves this opportunity and so does many others talented player form other Island.

A Message from the new leadership;
Friends, as you know, Carlos “Bibi” Amado resigned as league President effective 6/20. Without going into specifics, the league would like extend its gratitude for all of his hard work in the time of his presidency. Bibi worked extremely hard, putting in long hours to ensure that league business was conducted. For his countless hours of dedication to the league, again we say thank you.
Now we must turn the page to a new chapter. With his resignation, the Vice President must assume the presidency according to our bylaws. Narcisa Araújo will now assume the role as acting President. All the remaining board members have agreed to continue in their respective roles, performing their pre-designated duties. The current board members would like to assure all affiliated teams, media and community, that it’ll do everything in its power to not only continue what Carlos Amado started, but also to lead in a way that would (continue to) make NELASA, the state’s number 1 (one) adult league.
The board will need the cooperation of everyone connected directly or indirectly with NELASA, to see that the transition is carried out in a manner that will be least disruptive to its operation. The Board is confident that transition will be a smooth one, mostly because Carlos Amado has graciously agreed to lend his support through this transition.

Emidio Raposo CUP Quarter Final Recap

Emigrantes came from behind twice to beat Strela Negra 4-2 in over time.
After Strela Negra took an early lead on a goal by Braiman who sneak behind the defense and found him self all alone with the goalkeeper and put his team up 1-0. Strela kept on pressuring the Emigrantes defense and got a penalty opportunity when Emigrantes defense handled the ball in side the penalty box but Djicay missed the PK that would put his team up 2-0 at the time. Emigrantes is a very good team and when you give them chances to hang around they usually deliver, still in the first half Emigrantes pulled leveled when Carlitos found the back of the net on a corner kick by Ernesto, Joao Ex Café de Fogo put Strela back on top 2-1 and that would be the end of the first half. In the second half it was all Emigrantes Ze Viega scored to tie the game 2-2 and the game went into overtime. In overtime Emigrantes scored twice one by Zico (RI) and one by Edens to seal the game and move on to the Semifinal.

Aliança CV Advanced to the semifinals after beating Fidjus Terra 2-1
This was probably one of the most exciding games I have seen in a while, Fidjus Terra got the upper hand in the 31st minutes into the game when Adilson “DJ” scored from a beautiful pass by midfielder Julinho it was 1-0 Fidjus Terra after the first half. In the second half Alianca tied the game form the PK spot when Zico “matador” was taken down in the penalty box. Zico scored form the PK spot, goalkeeper Djica got his hand to the ball but couldn’t kept the ball out of the net. After 90 the game was tied 1-1 and overtime was needed to see witch of this powerhouses would advance to the semifinals. Alianca went ahead 2-1 in OT when Adilson (ex Café de Fogo) scored from a beautiful header that goalkeeper Djica had no chance to get to, the highlight of the game came in the first half of the overtime when Narcisio got a chance from the PK spot to tie the game but he was denied by Lisandro whom made a spectacular safe to his right. The final score 2-1 and Alianca advance to the semifinals.

Tarrafal FC shocked Dinamo 1-0 in OT.
Tarrafal moves on to the Semis to take on Emigrantes after they shocked Dinamo at home 1-0 in overtime. According to Dinamo head Coach Tiago Dinamo only showed up with 11 player and they were forced to play with 8 men in OT after two players got injured including his best striker Sandro Fonseca and he didn’t have any subs to put in. Tarrafal took advantage of that and scored the game’s only goal in OT to advance.

Alianca CV continue to lead the league in points with 25, Mindelo climb to the third spot, Nos Bandera dropped from 3rd to 5th in two weeks.

Week 10 first game was between Nos Bandera and Emigrantes in Boston, Nos Bandera jumped ahead early in the first half on a goal by Taidi, but in the second half it would be all Emigrates as they scored 2 goals in two minutes to take the lead and the victory, Zico and Danny scored respectively. Emigrantes would need all 3 points to keep the pressure on Alianca who remains in front of them by just two points.

With Emigrantes victory on Friday Alianca need to win to remain in the first place and they did just that by beating Strela Negra 3-0, Zico “matador” scored 3 times and he now has 6 goals scored.

Also in Brockton Tarrafal beat Café De Fogo 4-3 for their 10 points of the season.

Mindelo one of the hottest team in the league right now, trashed Juventude 4-0 to jump in to the third spot. Mindelo hasn’t loss a game since week 4.

Fidjus Terra traveled to Boston to take on Tabanka and came away with a 1-1 tie. Bebeto scored his 5th and Tabanka had a chance form the PK spot to take the lead late in the game but Flavio missed the PK shoot that would gave his team a 2-1 lead.

Curral Grande trashed Sporting R.I 4-0 at home to jump to the 8th spot in the standings, two goals by Funa, Elio and Maruka had one each.

Safira FC beat Boston FC 2-1 at home Will scored his 7th goal of the season one behind teammate Totti who still leads the league with 8.

Red Devils beat Nos Bandera again!

On a late Wednesday night game of the first round of the Emidio Raposo CUP in Boston the Red Devils from Providence R.I. traveled to Boston once again to take on Nos Bandera. Even miles away form home on enemies’ territory Coach Tiago and its players looked calmer than ever knowing that they have beaten this team before and that they can do it again. Tiago said that “Nos Bandera is very good team but I have confidence in my guys, we beat then not long ago here in the same field we played better than them and we can do it again”. For the most part of the game it was a seesaw battle but Sandro would break the tie in the 75th minutes when he won the ball away from Moises to score the game’s only goal. Sandro now has 8 goals in all competition and Tiago is very proud of his on time goalkeeper. “I made Sandro into the player that he is now” said Tiago, “he use to be a goalkeeper last year but I saw the potential in him and I convinced to be a striker and he has exceeded beyond my expectations.” In the beginning of the season when Ernesto and Zico left Dinamo to join Emigrantes no one gave Dinamo a chance but Tiago and its players, “like a always say I know every single team in this league very well and I know what it takes to beat them, we would be in the first place if it wasn’t for what happened in the first game in of the season vs. Alianca, and I won’t be satisfied until we get there and stay there” said Tiago. Dinamo is riding a very impressive 6-1-0 record in the last 7 games and are now sitting in the 3rd place in the standings and thru to the second round of the E. Raposo CUP.

Carlos Amado will resign as NELASA's President!

Carlos Amado will resign as the president of New England Luso American Soccer Association after five months in office. Carlos Amado will not issue any comments at this time but he admits to Futebolcriolo.com that his resignation will be affective June 20th and after we will issue a statement to the public. It is not clear yet why Carlos Amado made such a decision in the middle of the season but we will find out in a meeting schedule for June 20th at the leagues office in Brockton. Also it is not clear who will replace Carlos Amado but, we will be sure to post it as soon as we find out.

Celtic Football Club is based in the Parkhead area of Glasgow, and currently plays in the Scottish Premier League. The club was established in 1887, and played its first game in 1888. Celtic has won the Scottish championship on 42 occasions, most recently in the 2007/08 season, and the Scottish Cup 34 times. Celtic's home stadium is Celtic Park, the biggest football stadium in Scotland, with a capacity of 60,832. NELASA announced few changes to this year’s Inter-Ilhas Tournament!

2010 Inter-Ilhas is around the corner and NELASA has just announced today (6-2-10) that there will be no cover charge at this year’s event. Unlike in the past three years when it use to cost fans about $5 to $10 to go watch the games this year is up to the fans if they want to make a contribution, the league will have a box at the entrance for fans to make their donations. According to NELASA this year’s Inter-Ilhas will take place on the weekend of 3rd and 4th of July in order to also use this event as a celebration of Capeverdean independence; the games will be played at Moakley Field in South Boston MA.

NELASA also opted to change the format of the tournament from the past three years, this year all four team will play two matches, and the team with the most points will be crowned the Champions. In case of a tie the tiebreaker will be as follow head to head, goal scored and PK (teams will shoot PK at the end of every match) respectively.

Dinamo da Brava jumped into the top 5 for the first time since the season started, now sitting 4th in the standings with 11 points only 5 points behind the leader Alianca. Dinamo players and Coaches are feeling good about the 2010 season so far. In a conversation with Coach Tiago he said “ Dinamo always have been a power house team, everyone thought that we were going to be an awful team without Ernesto, but we have other players here who are more then capable of getting the job done.” Dinamo so far have beaten some of NELASA top teams like Alianca, Nos Bandera, Tabanka and Curral Grande. “There are a lot of good teams in this league and good players too, any team can beat any team in any given week but, you just have to do your homework before you step in the field with them” said Tiago. He also went on to say that “now with the derby been played on Sunday and Fridays I have time to go see most of the teams play and analyze their weakness, and their strong side and when I play them I know exactly what to do or expect.” Dinamo have been slowly climbing the standings and they could go even higher with a win over Boston FC in week 8 and according to Tiago the decision about the first game the season forfeit against Alianca CV is not yet official and they could still get the 3 points

Cape Verde is a small country on the geographical map, just like in the world of football. Currently occupying the 117th rank in the FIFA World Rankings, Cape Verde’s national football team surely has a long way to go to achieve the standards of other Portuguese-speaking nations such as Brazil. Arguably, the Tubarões Azuis cannot even compare their achievements to those of low-profiled African rivals Angola, who at least made history by reaching their first ever World Cup finals back in 2006. In this slide show, we learn much about Cape Verde's football as FIFA Licensed Players' Agent Tony Araujo speaks in an exclusive interview which I had with him. Free yourself from ignorance with a deep look at this country's football.
Cape Verde’s Past History In FootballOn January 7, 1979, Cape Verde played an international match for the first time. The experience proved to be a miserable one as they went down 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau. Two years later, the Blue Sharks suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Senegal in Mali. Actually, this emphatic loss proved to be their biggest defeat ever, along with the 4-0 thrashing they suffered in Praia against the Black Stars of Ghana in 2005. These records still stand as of now, May 2010.No FIFA World Cup memories, no Africa Cup of Nations delights. The Cape Verde Islands have never qualified for any of those major tournaments. However, the last decade witnessed a lot of improvement from the country’s national football team. After finishing third in the Amilcar Cabral Cup in 1995, the Tubarões Azuis finally won the title in 2000 to start the 21st century on a high. Cape Verde then went on to win bronze at the 2006 Lusophony Games and clinched the second place a year later in the Amilcar Cabral Cup. Last year, the country tasted glory again after nine years of wait with gold medals at the Lusophony Games. Among their achievements in the 21st century and in 2009, Cape Verde recorded its biggest win after thrashing Equatorial Guinea 5-0.

Cape Verde's Evolution On The International StageThe Blue Sharks don’t just compete against African counterparts. They’ve also affronted countries from Europe such as Luxembourg, Malta, and most recently, Portugal. November 2, 2002 is the date when Cape Verde first came up against a non-African side. On that day, they played out a scoreless draw to obtain a bit of pride. Malta, by the way, failed to resist against the Cape Verdeans’ desire to progress in the world of football when both met on September 4, 2009. The Blue Sharks triumphed 2-0 at the end of the 90 minutes.Four years ago, Cape Verde lost 4-1 to Portugal in a friendly encounter. However, on May 24 this year, the Blue Sharks succeeded in teaching their former colonialists a tough lesson. In a game that included the likes of the world’s most expensive player Cristiano Ronaldo and of Manchester United and Cape Verde-born creative winger Luis Nani, the Crioulos defended with ability and therefore secured a historic 0-0 draw in the end. The 117th ranked nation had just reminded the world’s third best team (according to FIFA’s present rankings) how poor they are as a unit and in attack ahead of the 2010 World Cup tournament.

FIFA Agent Tony Araujo Talks About Cape Verde's EvolutionAngela Asante: On a realistic point of view, what do you think of the future of Cape Verde in the game of football?Tony Araujo: I think that Cape Verde has a promising footballing future. If the Cape Verdean football authorities keep implementing the same short-term and long-term projects like they have been doing since the past 10 years, Cape Verde will certainly be able to achieve amazing and unprecedented results on the international scene. However, it will require a lot of work and mobilization in terms of financial support and resources beyond the scope of Cape Verdean authorities.Angela Asante: Talking about the international scene, Cape Verde seems to show good signs of progress despite having played only a few numbers of friendly matches against non-African sides over time. Tell us more about this considerable evolution.Tony Araujo: Well, it is almost unconceivable to think of Cape Verde, who is currently ranked 117th in the world, holding a football superpower like Portugal to a goalless result. I still remember that about a decade ago, the country’s national team had never played any European side. It all started with games against small sides like Luxembourg and Malta and then it followed with encounters against high-profiled teams like giants Portugal. In fact, Cape Verde has a huge Diaspora all over the world. This provides us with a competitive advantage against many other African nations. The Cape Verdean Football authorities should start reaching out to various Cape Verdean communities around the world like in Portugal, in France, in Holland, in Luxembourg, in Italy, in the USA, and primarily in the New England area where there is a huge talented pool of football players playing in the prestigious New England Luso-American Soccer Association League which is considered to be one of the finest and most competitive amateur football league in the United States. This initiative will bring in amazing and prospective talented footballers that are plying their trade in this amateur league.

FIFA Agent Tony Araujo Talks About Cape Verde's TalentsAngela Asante: "You’re talking about talented footballers originating from the Cape Verde Islands, could you give out specific names?"Tony Araujo: "Yes, there are so many potential talents in this league. They range from players such as powerful striker Zico Veiga, talented and speedy wingers like Justin and Jessy Almeida Fernandez who are twin brothers. I will also mention Ernesto Lopes, a versatile playmaker in the midfield, besides the up and coming Willito Fernandes who is a 19-year-old midfielder with a great scoring touch. Willito is considered by many as one of the best talent in this area, just like Idelce Lopes who is a very good central defender; Idelce possesses all the necessary skills to take it to the next level."Angela Asante: "Interesting. So certainly, Cape Verde possesses a lot of talent. Now what does the national football team lack to reach at least the standard of other African nations such as Ghana, Nigeria, or even Algeria?"Tony Araujo: "Cape Verde certainly counts many talented players when it comes to the sport of football. Cape Verdean footballers and their team are making inroads as well as impact in the development of the sport here in the USA. Last year, a Brockton, Massachusetts-based Cae Verdean team called the Emigrantes Das Ilhas FC competed in the highest US national amateur competition. And they made it all the way to the final where they were beaten on penalties in extra time. That is quite impressive for a non-profit football club with only few financial resources and backing. If you look at what has happened on the international football scene for the past two decades, you will see that Cape Verde has produced top footballing talents.However, football programs in Cape Verde need to be better structured, marketed, and above all they need a better financing system whether it may be from private investors, from the country’s Government, or through key sponsorships from leading international kit suppliers such as Adidas, Nike, and Puma. But, the emphasis needs to be placed on the youth development of the sport."

FIFA Agent Tony Araujo Talks About The SolutionsAngela Asante: "Any solution, then?"Tony Araujo: "Well, in order for Cape Verde’s football to reach the standard or the height of its African football counterparts such as Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, and Togo, the Cape Verdean football authorities will need to work extremely hard and with the support of strong financial backing as well as through the involvement of the Cape Verdean Government authorities. This will place a strong emphasis on the development of the sports at youth or grassroots level on a national scale." Angela Asante: "So most recently, how have things gone in the country in terms of football and players?"Tony Araujo: For the past two decades or so, all of the best Cape Verdean footballers have been trained almost exclusively at either EPIF or by Batuque Futebol Club. For your information, EPIF is a well-known and established soccer school in the capital city of Praia. Batuque Futebol Club, by the way, is an amateur football club in Cape Verde that places an emphasis on the development of the sport at a youth level. Batuque FC is one of the few teams that invest a lot of money on that, actually. Either way, Cape Verde cannot keep relying solely and exclusively on these two key sporting institutions to develop the future footballers for the country’s national team. The Cape Verdean government authorities alongside with the Cape Verdean football association will need to subsidize the creation and finance of key additional youth football development projects such as those of EPIF and Batuque FC on a grandeur scale and on a national basis throughout all of the 9 inhabited islands."Angela Asante: "Then what should be done in your opinion, M. Tony Araujo?"Tony Araujo: "Most importantly, they will need to continually finance, subsidize, as well as support the key existing football clubs and football structures. Now lastly, but not least, they will need to create a national youth championship that will foster a new level of competition among potent young footballers.In this case, many of Cape Verde’s young hidden talents will be discovered, selected, trained, and channeled to the various national team categories."

FIFA Agent Tony Araujo Talks About Players And National PrideAngela Asante: "Luis Nani, Henrik Larsson... these players have Cape Verdean origins. However, they haven't contributed in the growth of the country's football as they possess other nationalities. What would you say to upcoming talents who dream of playing abroad to therefore stand the chance of participating in big events such as the World Cup?"Tony Araujo: "Yes, that is quite a true statement. Yes, those two players [Nani and Larsson] are of Cape Verdean origins but they are not an exception. Patrick Vieira, Jorge Andrade, Oceano, and others are too.There have been many talented footballers of Cape Verdean origin that have opted to represent other national teams instead of Cape Verde’s. Actually, this is the case for Nani, Miguel, Nelson, Rolando, Manuel Fernandes, Gerson Fernandes, and David Mendes, Varela, Eliseu, and many more other players. However, carrying the jersey of a national team should be a matter of pride and nothing else. To me, it seems like those players placed their financial well-being interests before their national pride but I truly respect their decisions."Angela Asante: "But if it goes on this way as Cape Verde’s FA is yet to give more attraction to the country’s football, wouldn’t it be harder for your suggestions mentioned earlier to be executed? I mean, as a FIFA Licensed Players’ Agent, you would certainly be pleased to contribute in turning things around at the benefit of Cape Verde. What is your advice to rising stars who dream about following the footsteps of renowned players like Nani or Patrick Vieira?"Tony Araujo: "As a Football Players’ Agent, my advice to the new generation of upcoming Cape Verdean talents is to put the country first before anything else. I would ask them to instill a sense of national pride on themselves, since football like no other sports has the amazing ability and power of bringing people of any country together. In Cape Verde, this will not be an exception. I would ask them this question: would you rather play for your own country and help it progress on football’s international arena or would you choose to represent another country’s national team and be just another player in that national team pool that often never gets the call-up from its Head Coach?"

FIFA Agent Tony Araujo Talks Optimistically About Cape Verde's FutureAngela Asante: "So for the time being, M. Araujo, any optimism?"Tony Araujo: "Well, Cape Verde has proven that even though it is a small country economically and geographically, it is an up-and-coming footballing nation with tons of potential. If planned, administered, and financed properly I think that in the world of football, Cape Verde can be almost what the Dominican Republic is in the sport of Baseball nowadays."Angela Asante: "Now, according to your statements, there seems to be quite a long way to go for Cape Verde to achieve a considerable amount of respect in football, especially in terms of success and ranking. Still, the country’s national football team has experienced a lot of progress since the year 2000. How would you explain Cape Verde’s considerable evolution in football since the past 10 years?"Tony Araujo: "All of the success and achievements thus far achieved by the Cape Verdean football has been the result of a collective work done by the Cape Verdean football authorities, mainly the President of the Cape Verdean Football Association Mr. Mario Semedo, the Head Coach Joao De Deus and his Assistants such as Lucio Antunes. Also, I have to attribute a lot of this success to FIFA for their continued collaboration, partnership and financial support through their FIFA Goal Program, coaching & referee training and certification among many other financial contributions and support. In addition to that, I have to attribute some of the success to soccer schools and academies like EPIF, administered by the long-time Cape Verdean football pioneer Mr. Jose Ramos Lobo; that was actually the first project of that sort established in the country. Besides, I would like to emphasize the work that Mr. Mario Semedo and his team have done in terms of building top class football facilities throughout the country. Nowadays, it is possible for Cape Verdean footballers to play football on artificial turf throughout the country and that is due to the strong collaboration between FIFA and the Cape Verdean Football authorities. I am pretty sure that CAF and UEFA have helped financed some of the football projects in Cape Verde too. Last but not least, Mr. Joao De Deus, the Portuguese Head Coach for the Cape Verde national team and his Technical team. They have done an amazing job in implementing key changes to the various national team categories, such as the changes in the talent discovery, identification, selection, training, and eventual call-ups for the senior national team. Mr. Joao De Deus and his team create a world class coaching staff."

Nos Bandera vs Sporting RI kicked off NELASA week 7 at Ceylon Park on game that was reschedule from its original date do to Sporting RI traveling this weekend to participate in a soccer tournament. Nos Bandera control most of the first half and scored first goal by Rafael Ramos in the first half. Bruno Brandão return to his normal position as goalie but still couldn’t stop Sporting from scoring three consecutive goals to go up head 3-1.

Ousmane return from his native country Senegal after missing the first 6 games of the season and he had brilliant game as he scored all three goals for his team. Nos Bandera kept on pressuring Sporting and got one back when Valdano score from the PK spot to make 3-2 at that was where it ended. Sporting got one of their most impressive win of this young 2010. After loosing the 4 out of 5 first games under ex Coach Joia Sporting now got 1 win and 1 draw under the new head coach Nelo Sanca.

Aliança CV took a big step in the pursuit of their first NELASA Championship in week 6 Derby vs Fidjos Terra in Brockton. In a must win game to maintain at the top in the standings Alianca did just that by beating Fidjos Terra 2-1 at home goal scored by ex Fidjos Zorru in the first half. Fidjos Terra battle back to tie the game still in the first half goal by Manu, who is playing his first season in the league and has proven to be a very good addition to Fidjos Terra, Manu also scored last week in win vs Strela Negra. In the second half Aliança down a man after midfielder Marlon was red carded but still managed to get the winning goal.
Aliança is still in first place with 15 points and will face Emigrates in week 7 whom also got 15 points after they trashed Stela Negra 3-0 goals by Edens, Ernesto from PK and Valter.

In Boston Nos Bandera hosted and beat Boston FC 2-0 for their 13 points in 6 games played witch is good to keep then in 3rd place. Goals were scored first by Pipito who played his first game after an eight game suspension dated back to last season and Tata scored his first to make it 2-0.

Tabanka played and won their first game without head coach Ze de Pecha who resigned last week. Tabanka finally scored more than 1 goal in a match and beat Curral Grande 3-0 two goals by Bebeto and 1 by Tito.

The red hot Dinamo traveled to East Boston to take on Safira FC and come away with a 2-2 tie after been down 2-0 two goals scored by Quim for Dinamo.

Sporting RI traveled to Brockton to take on Café de Fogo with new head coach Nelo Sanca, and game ended in a tie 2-2.

Juventude continue to struggle as they loss their forth straight game. The final was 2-0 in favor of Tarrafal goals by Joven e Tequinho,

Ze has resigned as the Head Coach at Tabanka!

Futebolcriolo.com has learned that Ze de Pecha has resigned as Tabanka’s head coach in a letter sent to Tabanka May 17, 2010. Ze has been the head Coach at Tabanka since 2006 where he won multiples Championships starting in 2007 when he won Tabanka’s first NELASA Championship and the most recent last season he won NELASA Championship and Supper cup as the head coach. Ze brought to Tabanka 2 Championship 1 Cup and 1 Supper Cup in 4 years as the Head Coach, He is considered by many to be the best Coach in NELASA league and it is a big loss for Tabanka organization if he in fact decides to leave. Ze has been under a lot of pressure do to Tabanka disappointments this season on the field, with last weekend loss Vs Dinamo marked their third straight loss the team has only scored 3 goals in 5 games and has not scored any goals in the last two games. Tabanka have one of the most talented roster in the league with players like Silvio, Bebeto, Samuel, Jair, Flavio, Vivino, Pirochu, Ne, Scaia, To de Boianu and more, but still can’t manage to win games, they have a 1-1-3 record, the lonely win so far was a 1-0 victory over Café De Fogo in week 2 since than they have loss week-3 2-1 to Nos Bandera, week-4 1-0 to Safira and week-5 1-0 to Dinamo.

Week 5 kicked off with a bang Friday night at Ceylon Park where Curral Grande managed to come up with a 0-0 tie despite been outplayed by Nos Bandera. Curral Grande Goalkeeper Janito had a huge night with 8 safe to give his team the much needed 1 point.

Saturday in RI the struggling Tabanka came up short again vs Dinamo in a 1-0 loss. Dinamo’s goal was scored in the first half by Sandro and that was enough to seal the deal. Tabanka has loss 3 games in a row and only 4 points in 5 matches.

Strela Negra loss their first of 2010 vs Fidjus Terra 3-0 goals by Pina, Manu and Narciso respectively.

Safira FC got their third win 2-1 victory in a tight game vs. Tarrafal two goals by medfielder Rodrigo, and Sousa scored for Tarrafal for his second of the season. Tarrafal has now loss three games in a row since winning the opperner vs. Sporting RI.

Boston FC trashed Café De Fogo 5-1 Mohamed Ahmed "Willy” scored a hat trick for his 5th goals in 2 games he is now second to his team mate Toti who also scored from the PK spot for his 6th goal. The two players combine for 11 of Boston FC 14 goals. Quis also added the 5th goals for Boston FC. Boston FC were down 1-0 after the first minute when Captain Joao Canuto scored the first goal of the match for Cafe D'Fogo, but Boston FC turn the game around with 5 unanswered goals. They now lead the league in goals scored with 14.

Alianca got to rest this week and will face Fidjus Terra in week 6.

Nilton Canuto has left Curral Grande to join Nos Bandera. According to multiple sources Nilton is officially a member of Nos Bandera and he should be able to play in week 5 versus none other than his old club. Nilton has decided to join Nos Bandera after been disappointed in his team and teammates lack of effort, he was not happy after Curral Grande loss three consecutive games and decided to make the change. Nilton scored 13 goals in 09’ witch was the 4th best in the league. Nos Bandera will take on Curral Grande Friday night May, 14 at Ceylon Park.

This weekend the final ruling come out against Dinamo regarding week’s one game Vs. Alianca, witch means Alianca now leads the league in standings with 12 points a perfect record thru 4 games. Alianca took on Sporting in Brockton Sunday and put on a show with 3-0 victory, Zorru scored his second goal of the season to open the score board and the young talented Danny add 2 more in the second half.

Saturday in Boston there were a few upsets. First Dinamo presented a superior soccer against Nos Bandera and come away with their first victory of 2010 season and handed Nos Bandera their first loss. Dinamo scored first with a goal by Jonithan in the first half but Nos Bandera tied right before the half on a goal by the new comer Taidi for his first of the season. In the second half Dinamo held Nos Bandera scoreless and added the game winning goal by Andrez to seal the victory.

The second upset of the day was a 1-0 victory by Safira FC over Tabanka Safira scored in the 89th minute, goals scored by #6 Jovanny.

In Brockton Boston FC come away with a 3-1 win over Mindelo, Toti added one more to his league leading 5 goals in 4 games, Walli scored his first and second goals of the season.

Curral Grande got their first points after three consecutive losses, a 2-0 win over Café D’Fogo Denny got his second goal and #10 Vicente scored his first.

Emigrantes remain perfect thru three games with a 2-0 win over Tarrafal Ernesto and Ze both got their first goals of the season.

Fidjus Terra X Juventude was canceled do to heavy rain. The game will be rescheduled on a later date by the league.

Strela Negra has a perfect record of 3-0-0 stay out in week 4 and they will take on Fidjus Terra in week 5.

Strela Negra had a perfect record 3-0-0 during the month of April and Placido was one the big reason why. Placido had a hat trick on the first game of the 2010 season when Strela laid a beat down on Curral Grande a 5-1 victory. After that Placido had numerous of chances to score in week 2 victory Vs. Boston FC and missed to add on to his goals total but he capitalized in week 3 when Strela traveled to R.I to take on Sporting and came away with a 1-0 victory. Week three brought a lot of excitements, starting Friday night at Ceylon Park with a big match up between Tabanka and Nos Bandera where we saw a lot of first. Bebeto and Valdano played their first game of the season, Jose Rafael and Bebeto got their first goal and Nos Bandera come out with a win on their fist Derby of the season.
Jose Depina Score early in the first half, Bebeto tied the game with just seconds left in the first, and Rafael scored the wining goal against his old clubs to give Nos Bandera the three points.

Saturday the rest of the game had to be played where Fidjus Terra got their first win and handed Tarrafal their first loss a 2-0 victory two goals score by Beto.

Emigrantes hosted Safira FC and come out with a 3-2 victory Danny scored his second of the season while Zico and Michel picked with their first goal.

Dinamo lost at home against Café De Fogo after been up 1-0, Joao De Lele score twice.

Sporting RI loss 1-0 to the red hot Strela Negra at home Placido added 1 more goal to tie Toti (Boston FC) 4 goals for the league leader in goals scored.

Alianca CV hammered Boston FC 5-2 to stay undefeated, Dayjon score twice while Zico, Zorru and Nana score one each.

Curral Grande still struggling after losing again 1-0 at home to Mindelo goal score by Sa in the 88th min of second half.

Nos Bandera 2-1 over Tabanka week 3 Derby

What most people are calling the best NELASA game ever played, took place this past weekend in Boston when last season Champs, Club Tabanka hosted Nos Bandera under the lights at Ceylon Park. Week 3 derby between Tabanka and Nos Bandera was just what the fans and NELASA expected a very intense and exciding game with a lot of fans showing up from all corners of Cape-Verdean Communities around New England.

Nos Bandera gain the upper hand early in the 7th minute of the match when Jose Depina hit a powerful shot from inside the penalty box to beat goalkeeper Lito, the place went wild and Nos Bandera fed of that and controls most of the first half, but could not hold Tabanka as the newly acquired ex Strela Negra forward Bebeto score at the end of the first half from at throw in by Pirochu to tie the game 1-1.

In the second half Tabanka played a much better half but could not capitalize, as they had numerous of chances to score. Defender Jair had two opportunities from inside the box but missed both times, Pirochu also had a chance when he got a breakaway all alone with goalkeeper Cuca shoot it to high over the bar. Nos Bandera didn’t give up and didn’t missed when they had their chances, in the 20th minutes of the second half, on a beautiful strike by ex Tabanka Rafael from outside the box, beat Lito in the far right hand corner, Lito couldn’t do nothing but look at the ball going in. Nos Bandera went head 2-1 and held Tabanka scoreless in the second half to come out with they third win of the season.

Nos Bandera is sitting right now in third place with three wins in three games with this one been one of the most significant win yet in this young 2010 season.

Tabanka whom many people picked to be the favorite, so far has started the season in a shaky note with only 4 points in 3 games 1 tie, 1 win and 1 loss. Tabanka is currently in 6th place with 4 points.

Ze Luis Curral Grande’s President has been suspended for 30 days and a fine of $50 for improper attitude against the referees. Also Curral Grande’s head Coach Sueko has been suspended for 10 days with a fine of $25. All this happened last weekend in Brockton in a loss Vs Alianca CV.

The league finds Jose Barros of Desp. Curral Grande’s President Jose Barros guilty of violation article 459.01 a) therefore the following sanctions shall apply:

SPIGA MIDJU HAS BEEN BANNED BY NELASA!

NELASA just announced today that the league has banned Spiga Midjus from this year’s competitions do to the fact that Spiga Midju has not yet register any players and for abandoned league’s competitions. NELASA’s president Carlos Amado said “to date they “Spiga Midju” have not signed a single player and the league has not received any communication from Spiga Midju stating their intent.” Spiga Midju is going to be left out of this year’s competitions and there are welcome to apply again next year if they choose to. NELASA has removed Spiga Midju from its schedule and the league has gone back to have only 15 affiliated clubs witch means one clubs will stay out each week for the remainder of the season.
For the past two weeks Spiga Midju forfeits its game Vs. Emigrantes and Tarrafal FC witch would of giving each team 3 points, but the league has taking those points away witch means Emigrantes and Tarrafal has only played one game this season.

Emigrantes disqualified from the US Open CUp 2010!

Emigrantes were disqualified from the US Open Cup. According to Emigrantes the reason why the team was disqualified is because one of the players did not present a valid player pass for the match Vs Brooklyn New York, but the player were clear to play . Also there is an allegation against USASA that was put on by Emigrantes and we contact USASA to learn more, but they said that they could not comment on the case until it is resolved. All they could comment on is that for the time been Emigrantes is out of the competition. The quarterfinal is schedule to be played May 2nd between Brooklyn NY and Go Soccer FC, even though Emigrantes is trying to prevent it from happening.

Week three of 2010 NELSA season is here and its going to start Friday April 30th with the Derby , between the two Boston’s rival Nos Bandera taking on Tabanka at Ceylon Park in Boston, the game is schedule to start at 8:00pm. As we all know this should be a very intense game, with a lot of excitements not only for the fans but the player as well. Nos Bandera is going to probably line up with six or seven ex Tabanka players that were members of last year Championship team. Moises a ex Tabanka midfielder said “This is a must win game for us, we haven’t got a real test yet this season and to be the best we have to beat the best, we must win every Derby we get this season if we want to have any chance at the Championship.” Tabanka also have a strong squad, coming off their first win of the season last week in Brockton Vs Café de Fogo, there are also optimistic about the Derby, and there are looking forward to play Vs a very good team like Nos Bandera.
The weather looks good for this weekend’s Derby so please come out and support the Clubs and the league. This should a very good match you will get to see some of the best players NELASA is got to offer.

Strela Negra on top of the league for the second Week in a row!

Week 2 of 2010 NELASA had a lot of big match ups where we saw Strela Negra rise to the top of the standings, and Fidjus Terra and Curral Grande sink deeper.

The week started in Boston where Nos Bandera took on Safira FC at Madison Park and come away with a 1-0 nail biter victory. Goal score by ex-Goalkeeper Bruno Brandão in the 6th minute of first half. Both teams had opportunity to score more goals but they just didn’t capitalize, Nos Bandera is perfect so far two out of two with 6 points fifth in the standings, while Safira slipped down to seventh place with 3 points.

At Ceylon Park the new and improved and the leader on the standings Strela Negra hosted Boston FC and come away with their second victory of the 2010 campaign. Strela went up 2-0 early goal score first by Brito then 8 minutes later Rolando add another one. In the second half Boston FC held Strela scoreless an got one goal back from the league’s leader in goal score Toti from the penalty spot, Toti has 4 goals in two games.

In Brockton Dinamo whom despite winning week 1 game 3-0 Vs Alianca CV has forfeit according to Nelasa do to using ineligible players, was in Borckton to take on Mindelo Assoc. and managed to come out with a tie 2-2 even though their two best player didn’t play because of suspensions. Ivan scored two goals for Mindelo he now has two goals in two games.

Spiga Midju again forfeit game two of 2010 season, they still can’t field a team and Tarrafal FC picked up 3 points and the 3rd place in the standings with 6 points.

Aliança CV hosted and beat Curral Grande 2-1 despite been down in the first half 1-0. Curral went up on a goal scored by new comer Denny, but that didn’t hold up as Aliança tied in the second half on a goal scored by ex Café de Fogo, Adilson. Late in the game Curral Grande defender Jair had an unfortunate mistake and scored on his own goal to give Aliança the victory and 2nd place in the standings. Curral Grande is now sitting in 15th place with 0 points so far.

Café De Fogo hosted Tabanka at Pic Park and loss their second game 1-0 goal score by Tito who has scored two goals in two games for his new Club. João de Lele had a chance late in the second half to tie the game from the penalty spot but were denied by goalkeeper Lito.

In R.I Sporting got their first victory of the season Vs Juventude a 2-0, goals scored by African #23 Moly.

Sunday in Brockton Fidjos Terra took on Emigrantes at Pic Park, in a game that was control from minute 1 to minute 90 by Fidjos Terra but, still came out on the losing end. In the 22nd minute of the second half Danny got a break away and scored the games only goal. Fidjos Terra hit the post three times in the course of the games the ball just wouldn’t go in for them. Fidjos Terra has 0 points in two games and they have a very steep mountain to climb to the top. Emigrantes has now 6 points and 4th place in the standings.

Boston FC a team that has been constantly improving every single season on and off the field since joining NELASA back in 2005 has started the 2010 season on the right track. Their best season yet was last year (2009) when they had a record of 8-2-9 26 total point and missed the playoffs by just two points, and the winner of the Fair Play Award . Having said that they didn’t win their first regular season game until Week 9 Vs Spiga Midju, but that dint stop them. This season every thing looks to be different as they hammered Juventude 3-0, three goals by the 19 years old sensation Toti on their opening game of 2010 NELASA season. Toti is tied with Strela Negra’s forward Placido as the league’s leader in goal scored with 3 apiece. Boston FC has improved in every level of the game, with much more experienced players like Danny, Paulino and Ze, and the addition of Manny “Bate Bola” as the head coach as really improved the clubs expectations for the 2010 season, and they could very much be the surprise team of 2010.

Nelasa Week 1 full of surprises!

The NELASA 2010 season has officially started, the opening day match was against the two Boston rivals Curral Grande Vs Strela Negra and it turn out to be a 5-1 blowout by Strela Negra. Christian Lopes open the scoreboard in the 4th minute of first half and Strela Negra never looked back after that. Palcido Teixiera scored three times in the second half for his first Hat trick of the season and Briaman added another one, Curral Grande got one back in the 90th goal score by Mario Rocha .

Saturday the remainder of the teams got to have their openers, Nos Bandera is back in the league and back to its wining ways a 2-1 victory over Café De Fogo goals by Zidane form the penalty spot and Tony, Café de Fogo got one goal back late in the game by #15.

The defending Champs Clube Tabanka faced off against a very good Mindelo team and got out played but come out with a 1-1 draw. Mindelo jump ahead in the first half with a goal by Amancio, and Tito tied the game in the second half.

Boston FC got a very impressive win 3-0 against Juventude 3 goals by Toti.

Tarrafal FC beat Sporting RI 1-0 on the road goal by Sosa.

Dinamo Da Brava spanked Alianca CV at home 3-0 two goals by Daniel and one by Jimmy.

Safira FC the late added Brazilian team won their first NELASA game Vs Fidjus Terra in Brockton with a score of 2-0.

In an effort to bring more fans to the game NELASA has introduced to us Friday Night Soccer. The young talented Strela Negra and fast pace Curral Grande will launch the 2010 NELASA season April 16, at 8 pm in Ceylon Park. Strela Negra has gone from a veteran team to a much younger team in just one year, they have loss the head coach and 10 of last years’ starting 11 players, and Curral Grande for the most part has kept their team together and added some key players like ex Emigrantes Deto and others.

Saturday the remaining teams will have their opener.
In Boston the defending Champs C. Tabanka will host a much improved Mindelo team 5:00 pm at Medison Park , Nos Bandera will take on Café de Fogo at home 4:30 Pm at Madison Park "feild #2" , Boston FC will host Juventude from Providence at Ceylon Park the game will start at 5:00pm.

In Brockton, Spiga Midju will host Emigrantes time TBD, Fidjos Terra will take on the newcomers Safira FC at Pic Park 5pm.

In RI there will be two games last year runners-up Sporting RI will host Tarrafal FC the game is schedule to start 4:00pm at at Marting Middle School and Dinamo will host Alianca CV 5:00pm at gallego Court.

The opening day will conclude in Brockton, with NELASA annual season opener party at Joe Angelo’s.

Carlinhos no longer with Strela Negra.

Newly acquired Strela Negra's head coach Carlinhos as been let go just days before the first game of the season. According to one Strela Negra's source the Carlinhos showed a lot of potential to what the Club wanted to do this year, going to a much younger squad but lately that wasn’t the case and for the best interest to the team and player the unfortunate decision had to be made. Carlinhos whom coach Fogo All-Stars to their second Inter Ilhas Championship last season was looking to make a comeback into Nelasa for the 2010 season, Carlinhos first coached Curral Grande back in 2008 and will have to wait and see if another opportunity will be presented to him.

The 2009 Region I Open Cup Champs Emigrantes Das Ilhas will travel to New York State this weekend April 11, to take on Brooklyn Italians on the first round of US Open Cup. By qualifying last season, Emigrantes Das Ilhas is the first Cape Verdean team to ever qualify to the Lomar Hunt US Open Cup, and they automatically qualify for this years’ competition. Emigrantes were two games away last year to face off against New England Revolution, but they had an early release from the competition when they loss 3-2 to Western Mass Pioneers in the first round of Lumar Hunt US Open Cup. They loss their coach/player Ze Jorge to Mindelo that help them tremendously last year but, Emigrantes front office has been working hard during this off season to get the team ready for this year’s Open Cup and NELASA season. They have signed Coach Topa to replace Ze Jorge and they have signed one of NELASA best player Ernesto Lopes ex Dinamo Da Brava med-fielder whom has sign with Emigrantes for the 2010 season campaign, and he could be that extra kick that they need to make it farther in the competition. Ernesto has also brought with him to Emigrates Zico and Miguel whom they have played for more than five years together as members of Dinamo. Emigrantes looked in good shape this past weekend when they won their second Annual Tournament, by defeating current NELASA Champs Clube Tabanka 5-0 in the first game and Fidjos Terra 3-0 in the second game. The team looks to be ready to go and we wish them luck in this year’s US Open Cup Tournament.

On Friday April 02, 2010, Cape Verdeans Soccer fans and supporters came from various parts of New England to show their love to the game and their support to Futebolcriolo.com first Dinner Gala at Restaurant Cesaria. In an interview with the CEO of Futebolcriolo.com Salomao Afonseca stated that the event was very important for the website and he was contented to see the amount of supporters who took the time out their busy schedules to come out and support the website. Mr. Afonseca also stated that it was important to see that people are supporting the beautiful game and are interested to see what is going on in NELASA and in Cape Verde in general. In the audiences, there were NELASA’s President Carlos Amado, FIFA agent Tonny Araujo, and most of the NELASA clubs representatives, form Brockton, Rhode Island and Boston. The night was for the most part a tribute to some of NELASA’s Clubs and staff for their outstanding contributions, dedication and hard work they put in throughout the 2009 NELASA season.

In addition Mr. Afonseca said “It’s sad to see these talented individuals, and organizations work and efforts been wasted and that’s the main reason they’re been honored tonight”. Mr. Afonseca started the night by thanking the audiences and those who had show their supports but couldn’t make it. He also informed the audiences that his vision going forward is to make sure he connects the Cape Verdean communities around the world. He also addressed the importance of the youth in Brockton, Boston and Rhode Island to stay connected with the older guys and to learn the values and roots of their culture. Soccer gives young adults the opening to interact with the older adults and it gives the older guys the opportunity to teach the youngsters discipline, respect, and brotherhood. Mr. Afonseca’s vision is to use soccer as a method to connect the community with the youth and the older generation with the young generation.

Furthermore, Mr. Afonseca asked the audiences, clubs and NELASA in general to continue to support the website and to continue to do everything they can to promote Cape Verdean Soccer in the United Stated and abroad. He stated that it is extremely important that the clubs work together and support each other going forward. “Few years back, not many knew about NELASA, not many went to the games and not many cared about the game. Now when you go to the games you see people from all over supporting their teams and having a good time, that’s what is all about. As a member of the community when you see someone invite him to the game, when you see an young adult try to convince him to come to the game so he can interact with others. ” (Afonseca)
As a member of the community I’m very pleased to see this type of initiative and I believe that we all should take this chance to encourage those who do not know about what’s going on around them to come to the games with us. I think if we all do our parts we can really use soccer to get some of our youths out of the streets. Mr. Afonseca cannot do it alone and he cannot change every youth’s lives but if the community as a whole do support him and embrace him change will be made and some of our youth’s lives will be saved.

Clube Tabanka was honored as Team of the year and Offensive Team of the Year. Clube Tabanka had an outstanding 2009 season, their success last year showed us how important it is to have a strong group of people who are willing to work together. They are a perfect example for the younger teams that are trying to reach higher. They leaded the league in goals scored with 58 goals in 19 games. They won the NELASA Championship and the Supper-Cup. Job well done and good luck this year.

Aliança CV from Brockton was awarded Futebolcriolo.com 2009 Defensive Team of the Year. Aliança CV had the best defense in the league. They managed to concede only 15 goals during the regular season. The group had a good run last year and they are ready for the new season. Keep up the good work and good luck this year.

Curral Grande received 2009 Comeback Team of the year award. During 2008 season they were one of the worse teams in the league. They ended the season with two wins and 10 points last place in their respected group. But their pride, dedication and hard work turned everything around last season. They managed to make the playoffs and not one wanted to play them during the season or in the postseason. They ended the season with 26 points and made the postseason for the first time.

Sporting RI coaching staff Jorge and Tiago Monteiro received 2009 Coach of the Year award for the job they did with Sporting RI and for the amazing 2009 season. Jorge and Tiago helped Sporting RI won a very difficult group that had Emigrantes, Dinamo, and Strela Negra. They tied Aliança CV for the league best record 12-5-2, (41 points). Sporting RI, had an outstanding home record with not loss, they were the only club with a perfect home record during 2009 season. The two coaches also helped Sporting RI to the league’s Championship game for the first time. Good job coaches, good luck this season.

Futebolcriolo.com 2009 MVP went to Nilton “Pirochu” Pina. In his first year in NELASA Pirochu played for Strela Negra where his team finished 4th in their respected group and the 4th best team in NELASA during 2009 competition. Pirochu scored 12 regular season goals according to NELASA stats, and he was also honored by Soccer Schedule committee as New England Champions League (NECL) 2009 MVP.

Emigrantes Das Ilhas received Futebolcriolo.com Recognition Award for their outstanding 2009 season. Emigrantes won Back to Back Mass State Cup Champions, 2009 USA amateur soccer Region I Open Cup Champions. They were the first Cape Verdean’s team to ever qualify for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and they were 2 games shy of facing New England Revolution in the Open Cup. These are just some of the accomplishments that Emigrates were able to achieve during their 2009 season, and we wish them luck as they try again this year in the Open and Amateur Cups.

Mr. Afonseca closed the night with these words “ with these awards that Futebolcriolo.com has giving out this year I hope I have encouraged NELASA players, coaches and staff to dedicate more to this game that we all love, and I look forward to do this again next year.” With that the night was concluded with Live DJ music.

Clube Tabanka realizou ontem Sabado no dia 27 de Março, um jogoamistoso e de preparação contra a jovem equipa do Curral Grande. Aequipa do Tabanka, actual campeão da Liga NELASA venceu a suacongénere de Curral Grande por três bolas a uma (3-1). A jovem equipado Curral Grande começou a dominar o embate logo desde o início dapartida, e após dez minutos da primeira parte já estava na liderançado jogo por uma bola a zero, por intermédio do Avançado Nilton. Osjogadores do Tabanka demonstraram muito nervosismo logo nos primeiros20 minutos da partida, algo que é normal, já que a equipa campeãrenovou e apresentou na equipa principal novas caras tais como oPirroxu, Silvio, Samuel (Nesta) e Flavio. Mas, depois dos 20 minutosda primeira parte, a equipa do Tabanka começou a equilibrar a partida.
O experiente treinador Raúl (ex-Internacional da seleção de CaboVerde), logo no início da segunda parte decidiu fazer trêssubstituições que viriam a ser cruciais para o ritimo da equipaliderada por ele durante o resto da partida. Deixou de fora Portista,Jo e Lito, e fez entrar no terreno de jogo o polivalentecentro-campista Vivino, o veloz e talentoso avançado Titó e oexperiente Guarda Redes Né. Raul tambem ainda na fase inicial dapartida tinha feito uma substituição no elenco principal do Tabanka,no qual saiu Edson, e entrou no seu lugar o possante Samuel (Nesta),considerado por muitos como um dos melhores defesas centrais a actuarna Liga NELASA. Desde então, a equipa do Tabanka passou a jogar comtres defesas (Tó, Nesta e Skaia) e apartir daí a equipa campeã tomouconta do jogo e criou várias jogadas que eventualmente resultaram namarcações dos três (3) golos no decorrer da segunda parte.
Para o co-treinador do Tabanka Raul, o resultado final deste jogo janão era tão importante assim, mas o mais importante para ele era detestar os jogadores à sua disposição e sobretudo experimentar diversosesquemas tácticos, integrando os novos elencos do Clube e continuar apreparar os seus pupilos para a nova época futebolística que começaráno dia 17 de Abril.

Aliança CV getting ready to unveil what they are calling a much improved Club. They were one of the top team during last year’s season and they proved it by winning their respected group and having the league’s best defensive team. This year it looks like they are going to be nothing less then what they have always been a contender. They have sign Betinho as the head coach, who won every major trophies Nelasa, Nelasa Cup and Supper-Cup during NELASA 2008 season while with Fidjus Terra, and he has brought to Aliança some of key players that help him achieved what no other coach in NELASA history has win all three major trophies in the same season. According to João Jose Aliança’s President they have sign 6 ex Nelasa Champions, and he admits that they have loss some key players like Quevon, Sergio, Tatu, and Valdano but he thinks that they are going to be just fine with the addition that they have acquired. Saturday March 26, Aliança CV is going to have their team presentation Gala in Stoughton MA and they are pleased with the team they have and can’t wait for the season to commence.

When Carlos Amado took office as NELASA’s President, there were a lot of doubts of how well he was going to perform and if in fact he was the right person for the job. It was a no-brainer, it has only been two months since he took office and already we have seen NELASA moving in the right directions and with signs of a better future for its clubs and as a league. He has surround him self with personnel that understand this league and the sport, that are willing to work so each day this league is better then it was the day before.

In such a short period of time we have seen so many positive changes done by the Board Members to improve NELASA, to bring more competitions such as the addition of an all Brazilian team Safira FC whom were just affiliated into the league March 21. Safira FC is the first non Capeverdean club to join NELASA since 2001 when NELASA was founded. We have also seen the league going to an all versus all format for the first time ever, witch is a change that every club wanted for so long and it was finally brought to the table this off-season under Carlos Amado.

In the last General Assembly Carlos Amado also brought some new ideas to the table when he asked the Delegates to approve a suggestion he had to honor a Capeverdean leader Jorge Fidalgo in every NELASA All-Star game from now on, the idea was welcome by the Delegates and it was approved, but some Delegates wanted NELASA to honor other people that has done more to the game and the league such as Ze Badio. Carlos Amodo said that he founded Tabanka together with Ze Badio that he respect what Ze Badio did for the league, and he could’ve think of a lot of other people to can be honored but because the tradition of honoring Jorge Fidalgo on All-Start week was something that had had been done in the past so the league felt it was important to keep that tradition going. NELASA will honor Jorge Fidalgo in every All-Star game form now on staring this season when the NELASA All-Stars take on Vermont Voltage July 10, and also form now on the Iter-Ilhas Tournament will take place on the first weekend of July to celebrate Cape Verde’s Independence.

These are all the new changes that Carlos Amado has brought to NELASA to make the league better for all of us, and to feel proud to be a part of, to have a league that is our own, that represent who we are and one day we can reflect back and be proud of the work that these great individuals are doing for the name of all Capeverdean and soccer fans around the world.

Safira FC newest member of NELASA family

Safira FC was approved into NELASA Sunday March 21. When Raul Lopes Vice-President of General Assembly asked the clubs to vote every clubs present at the meeting voted to have Safira FC integrated into NELASA. Safira FC is an all Brazilian team. Club President said that the Safira FC has a lot of players that use to play professional soccer in Brazil, and that was one of the reason why he founded Safira FC so those player can have a club to play when they come here to US. Safira FC is a former Futsal champions and this is the first year they are going to play in soccer filed as a team.

Carlos Amado said that Angola whom used to be a part of NELASA also apporched the league, wanted to comeback, but as a league they felt that Safari has more to bring to the league at this momment then Angola. Safira members also said that they are working with a local Brazilian Channel "Rede BTN" (283 comcast sundays 11am-12pm) to see if they can show some of the league's game.

The room was full of NELASA members and teams Delegates as Valdir Alves started the ceremony. Mr. Raposo was joined by his Wife, Sons and friends. There were a lot of jockes going around the room all in good spirit and Mr. Raposo was very happy to be there as he said when former NELASA President Mario Santos pesented him with the plaque.

NELASA honored Mr. Raposo by naming the League's Cup after Mr. Raposo. From now on what used to be called Nelasa Cup will be called "Cup Emidio Raposo".

Mr. Raposo emigrated from Portugal when he was two years old to the US and he has been involved with locall Soccer since 1956.
Mr. Raposo and a group of Portugues immigrats founded PSC (Portugues Soccer Club) where he help organize the club and he also managed the youth team and was the P.S.C's Secretary from 1962-1966. In 1990 then as the Vice-President of New Bedford Comercial De Futebol Mr. Raposo was inducted in the New England Soccer Hall of Fame in Fox Point, R.I.

In 2001 NELASA was founded when LASA and NESA joined and not long after Carlos Baptista, NELASA's President at the time invided Emidio Raposo to be part of this new league. Mr. raposo performed the role of NELASA's treasurer, Pesident and Vice-President until 2008.

When the league was ready to be handed to an all Capeverdean leadership Mr. Raposa was a big part of that trasition. Mr. raposo remains very close to the league, Carlos Amado NELASA President said that he is honered to have met and work with Mr. Raposo.

Nelasa could have a 16th team if it gets approved this weekend.

Nelasa has a proposal to add Safira FC in this year’s competition, but it needs to be approved by the other 15 clubs at the next General Assembly March 21 at the League’s office in Brockton. With the addition of Nos Bandera currently there are fifteen clubs. Back in January at the first General Assembly the Clubs voted to have the League’s format changed to an all against all format whitch means every week one team had to rest. If the proposal is approved it will not extended the season at all and Safira FC will just have to be submit in every Clubs bye week slot. The League’s President Carlos Amado is ready to present this proposal to the clubs members this weekend and if it is approved it should a good thing for the league which is an all Cape-Verdean league to have a non Cape Verdean team like Safira FC whom is a Brazilian team. The opening day is just few weeks away and it’s shaping to be a very interesting one.

Nos Bandera is scheduled to have a team presentation party Friday March, 19 in Boston. Nos Bandera were welcome back into the NELASA league this season after taking a year off from the league in 2009. They already have signed players like Moises, Zidane, Rafael all player that help Tabanka win the Championship last year so with that Nos Bandera will definitely be one of the top team in NELASA this season. Also according to several sources they have more surprises that they want to make public yet but will be released at the party. Nos Bandera were always a power house team and this year should be no different they have a lot of talent player and it should be interesting to see if they can really keep up the level of completion that every one knows them for. Tigana rushed to the hospital.

According to Tonny Araujo Tigana did not play in the friendly match between Chicago Fire and FC Dallas in Jackson Mississippi today primarily because last night and this morning he was feeling some severe pain around his chest and heart area. In tonny request Tigana was rushed to the emergency room where they did an Electrocardiogram test and the result did not look good at first. Later that same day, with the consent of Tigana they did a small medical procedure on him via his artery in order to check if there was any blockage on any of the arteries to his heart and they also performed an Echocardiogram. Tigana is resting in the Hospital but after all the Doctors thought that it was in the best interest of all parties involved, more importantly for Tigana if they could keep him overnight in the hospital for further medical observations. Tonny said If everything looks okay Tigana will be released from the Hospital as early as tomorrow Monday and will join the team and his teammates shortly after. Because of this Tigana will be inactive for at least one more week said Tonny, and whatever decision needs to be made in regards to his contract is now dependent on his final medical results that will be released tomorrow by the private Hospital's Doctors.

Cape Verde, Mali, Zimbabwe and Liberia drawn in the same qualifying group for the 2012 African Nations Cup
On Saturday in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 44 African teams were drawn up into 11 groups which will battle out for 14 final places for the 2012 African Nations Cup. The 2012 African Nations Cup edition will take place in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. A total of 16 places are guaranteed in the final stage of the tournament. The co-hosts Gabon and Equatorial Guinea have already qualified automatically as the hosting countries for the tournament. Togo was not included in the process, as it was banned earlier this year by the CAF (African Confederation Football) from participating in the next two African Nations Cup tournaments, after the team exited the 2010 tournament in Angola even before the competion kick-off. Among the favorite teams to win the next edition of this All-African affairs are Egypt, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa. However, Egypt is considered to be the front-runner among those favorites to win the tournament. Egypt is the current title holder and 7 times winner and a record third consecutive triumph. Egypt was drawn-up in the group 7 alongside a one-time winner South Africa.
This will be a great opportunity for the Cape Verdean national team nicknamed 'Blue Sharks" or "Creoles" to qualify for its first African Nations Cup tournament. Also, Cape Verde has had some previous experiences against Mali in the "Amilcar Cabral Cup" tournament previous editions as well as against Liberia during previous World Cup qualifiers. The island nation of Cape Verde has never qualified for the finals of the FIFA World Cup or the African Nations Cup tournaments. The team almost qualified for the African Nations Cup in 2006, at one time lying second in their qualifying group behind the continent footballing powerhouse South Africa. However, its national team has savored some success on the international stage. For the first time in its history, on 2 November 2002, it faced a non-African team, Luxembourg, in a friendly match, resulting in a scoreless draw. On September 4 2009, it faced Malta in another friendly, resulting in an 2-0 victory. The team has two titles: the "Amilcar Cabral Cup" that they won in 2000 and the Gold medal at 2009 edition of "Lusophone Games" that took place in Portugal. The team also has a bronze medal at 2006 "Lusophone Games". Their biggest win on the International stage came on a home soil victory over Guinea Equatorial on March 28 2009 by 5-0 and their worst defeat was to their neighboring rivals Senegal by 5-1 on February 12, 1981.

For the first time ever NELASA has chosen an all against all format for the upcoming 2010 season. With new executive branch came new changes and add-ons to the league in witch all of the clubs vote on except Spiga midju and Mindelo whom was not present at the meeting.The most important change for the 2010 season was the fact the league has chosen to move from a playoff format to an all against all format witch is what most people close to NELASA thought was better for the league. In this new format all the teams will play each other twice home and away and at the end of the season the team with most points will be grown the Champion. There were also more add-ons, a “Friday Night Game” every week the league will pick a exciding game to be played, all of this is to give players, coaches and fans a chance to see not only there team but other teams in action and to bring more fans to the game. In a meeting schedule by the league with all 15 clubs for Friday February 19 at the leagues office in Brockton, the main focus of this meeting is going to be the schedules and the format of the upcoming season. It’s not clear yet if the league is going to keep the same format because there is one more team added for upcoming season. All of these issues are going to be presented to the clubs so a decision can be made before the games begin sometime in April.

Na penúltima jornada do campeonato regional do futebol da Brava, Morabeza sagrou campeã da prova, com dois empates e sete vitorias. Na tarde de Domingo, o No Pintcha empatou a duas bolas com a Acadêmica, e o Morabeza venceu o Sporting por cinco bolas a duas, de resto, o mesmo resultado da primeira volta.
O primeiro jogo foi disputado numa toada lenta, mas as duas equipas mostraram-se muito equilibradas. O No Pintcha precisava ganhar se quisesse manter as aspirações ao titulo, mas do contrario esteve a perde por duas bolas a zero, tendo no fim a Acadêmica consentido um empate a duas bolas.
Já o Morabeza entrou com a lição muito bem estudada, enquanto o Sporting pretendia estragar a festa, procurando adiar a comemoração para ultima jornada. Só que Roberto, com um portentoso remate do meio da rua, desfez a igualdade e colocou o Morabeza no caminho da vitoria.
Assim, o jogo terminou com o resultado que já se apontou, tendo, a equipa do Morabeza festejado o titulo de bi-campeão.
Na próxima jornada e para cumprir calendário, temos, No Pintcha e Sporting, no Sábado, Benfica e Acadêmica, Coroa e Morabeza, no Domingo.

O médio atacante do Sporting da Praia, Tigana, há uma semana de estágio em Arizona, que lhe foi garantido depois de ter submetido a alguns testes para a equipa norte-americana, Chicago Fire, está confiante com um possível contrato nessa equipa.
A permanência do médio atacante cabo-verdiano na vice-campeã da liga americana, em 2009, vai depender do resultado do estágio e da partida de futebol da próxima segunda-feira, 15, em que Chicago Fire vai defrontar o Vancouver Whitecaps. "As minhas expectativas em relação a esta partida são das melhores. E espero que eu venha a ter uma boa apresentação e consiga garantir um contrato com o American Fire", confessou Tigana ao Expresso das ilhas, salientando que está "extremamente" feliz com a sua estada, em especial com a forma como foi recebido pela equipa.
E caso essa contratação se efectivar, o centro campista diz que será a concretização "de um grande sonho".
O empresário do antigo 10 do Sporting, Tony Araújo, também está confiante no ingresso de Tigana na equipa Chicago Fire, inclusive já está a tratar "da papelada que garanta a permanência do Tigana, por mais tempo, nos EUA", salientou.

Former Emigrantes Das Elhas player/Coach Ze Jorge "Semedo" is Moving on and sign with Mindelo Ass. according with Emigrantes team director Ze Viega. Ze told futebolcriolo.com that Semedo had a meeting with the team where he told them that he is not coming back to the team for the 2010 season and signing with Mindello Ass. He went on to say how big of a loss he is to his team because Semedo understand the sport he has been through it all is a great player/mentor to have around. Semedo was a big piece of the 2009 Emigrates team that represented Massachusetts in the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament and this year they might have to do it without him. . Mindelo Association team director Jose Ramos did confirm that Semedo is interested in joining the team for the 2010 season, he also said that Mindelo has a new management and are looking to be one of NELASA power house and try to make it back to the playoffs, like in the 2008 season.

SHOULD NELASA CUT DOWN ON NUMBERS OF TEAMS?

There are 15 teams Cape Verdean teams now playing in 2010 Nelasa season
And 14 last season 16 the year before. Now the real question is! “Is it better for the league to cut down on the numbers of team?” I personally thing it is, fifteen teams between Boston, Brockton and Providence R.I are just too many for the league to handle we have seen it year after year. Also every season the last place teams don’t show up to a game when there is only two or three games left on the schedule and that is not right the league should look into that and take stronger actions against those teams. I also think the competition will be superior more talented players playing together the league will have more teams that are able to compete in other stages like MASS Cup.

Also do to weather condition here in New England fans like to see the game in wormer weather. The season is to long because there is a lot of team and more games needs to be played. I think a reasonable number of teams for a league like NELASA are 10.
Please let me know what you think the league should do!

According to Nelasa Nos Bandera is officially integrated into the 2010 Nelasa season.
Nos Bandera took a year off after the team was involved in a dispute during a game vs. Fidjus Terra in Brockton at the end of the 2008 season witch led to players suspensions and fines by the league. Team president “Nonoti” said that “Nos bandera was never suspended by the league we took a year off just because we were not happy with the way that the league handled the situation” witch at the time former Fidjus Terra player Betinho was the President. Now they are ready for a return and they are in it to win it. According to Nonoti they have sign Zidany, Rafael, Tchica, Cuca, Moises all of witch played for NELASA Champions Tabanka last season, they also have sign Queivon and Tatu from Alianca, and Bronu who played form Nos Bandera and Lisandro form Café de Fogo. With this line up they are sure one of the favorite to win all this year.

In a recent trip to the Cabo Verde Sporting R.I Coach Tiago Monteiro, told futebolcriolo.com that he had a vision to showcase Capeverdean soccer payers in US to soccer Clubs in Cabo Verde. They are a lot of young talented Cape-Verdean players here in the US playing in NELASA that is worthy of an opportunity to be seen by professionals team in Cabo Verde said Tiago who received an invitation to put together a group of young talented players to bring to Cabo Verde to play a friendly game vs. Boavista in Praia. In a meeting Saturday Jan. 22 in RI Tiago said that this project is going to require a lot of sacrifice on his part and the group of guys his putting together but its one worth making for a better future of Cape Verdean soccer and the youths that reside abroad. The trip to Cabo Verde is schedule sometime in April and Taigo is already working to put together the team and personnel.
